We are proud to present Space

Finally, it’s time to open Sweden’s new culture center Space, also the world’s largest gaming center with over 400 gaming setups, launching to the public on November 27. Today, Thursday, at 10:00, the seven floors of the fifth Hötorget building at Sergels torg were inaugurated by the Mayor of Stockholm, Anna König Jerlmyr and Åsa Caap, Head of Space. Stockholm’s Vice Mayor of Culture and Urban Environment, Jonas Naddebo, Mats Hederos, CEO AMF Fastigheter and Per Sundin, CEO Pophouse Entertainment, were also present.

Space is, both size and content-wise, a world-unique house that combines the most important ingredients in digital culture: gaming, music, esport and content creation for digital platforms. The house will engage and include people through entertainment experiences, digital culture and gaming.

Northern Europe’s largest permanent esport arena is located at the bottom of the building, created for hybrid events in gaming, concerts and esports. Move up two floors to street level to find Fat Cat, a Japanese and Korean brasserie. On other floors you will find, in addition to Space Gaming, both bars and cafes as well as generous areas for work, meetings and education.
Avicii Experience is set to open spring 2022.

– It is with great joy and anticipation that we now open Space at Sergels torg in Stockholm. With over 400 gaming setups, we will be the world’s largest gaming center and an open, dynamic and creative place in the middle of the city. Our goal is for all visitors to be able to develop and be inspired, deepen their digital knowledge and feel connection with the community, says Åsa Caap, Head of Space.

The extensive transformation of the fifth Hötorget building is part of the city’s mission to turn Sergels torg into a more open, safe and inviting area.

For more information about the history of the building, current urban development, construction and renovation, please see the separate fact sheet from AMF Fastigheter who own the building.

– Stockholm will finally have a central meeting place for gaming, esport and digital culture. Space will attract more talent to the city and contribute to Stockholm’s continued development as a creative destination for culture, experience and tech industries, says Anna König Jerlmyr, Mayor of the City of Stockholm.

Space opens to the public at 10:00 on November 27

Background
Space as a concept and idea was initiated in 2019 by Gustav Käll, Lars Blomberg and Per Sundin. Later that year, the collaboration with AMF Fastigheter and their CEO Mats Hederos, who is the real estate company’s enthusiast behind transforming the Fifth Hötorget building into a creative hub, also began.

At the end of 2019, Pophouse Entertainment stepped in as the majority owner and Space could be realized in its current form, which has taken place in close collaboration with AMF Fastigheter and the City of Stockholm. The architectural firm is DAP.
The concept has been developed to be exported internationally.
